Placement Codes
Placement codes define the exact location of a crate in the inventory tree. Every crate has a unique placement code, and no two crates may share the same code.
Structure
A placement code consists of one or more segments separated by hyphens (-). Each segment identifies one level deeper in the hierarchy.
Examples:
A(Top level crate)A-1(Child ofA)A-1-CA(Child ofA-1)B-STORAGE
The empty string "" is reserved for the root crate (which represents the entire server/inventory).
Rules
A placement code may only contain:
- Uppercase letters
A-Z - Digits
0-9 - Hyphens
-(to separate segments)
The following are not valid:
- Lowercase letters
- Spaces
- Underscores
- Slashes
- Punctuation marks
Don't worry, we wont let you create anything invalid 😊 - the backend validates placement codes before creating or updating crates.
Setting a Placement Code
When you create or edit a crate, you don't need to type out the full placement code. You only set the last segment (the crate's own unique identifier). The system handles the rest.
For example, if you create a new crate inside A-1 and you want its final code to be A-1-CA, you only type CA into the placement code field. The system automatically appends it to the parent's code.
How they work together
Parent-child relationships are derived entirely from the placement-code structure.
For example, if you are looking at the crate A-1-CA, the system knows its parent is A-1, and its grandparent is A.
Note
Changing a crate's placement code also updates the codes of all its descendants so the hierarchy remains consistent. If you rename A-1 to A-2, A-1-CA automatically becomes A-2-CA.
